Dear Lord,
Let me be confident
But keep me from self-importance
Let me be assertive
But avoid being hurtful or overbearing
Let me take pride in my accomplishments
But keep me from gloating
Let me know that positive self-esteem
Is essential to happiness
And true happiness
Is recognizing the Divine in all of us.

This prayer serves as a reminder that the ideals of believing in yourself and respecting others are compatible. Relationships should not be "me vs. him/her/them". This point of view negatively frames the relationship as a win or lose proposition. It is only when we see that or God in every person that we can hope to have meaningful relationships with each other.
