Loving to laugh

It was any other day at the grocery store--except for a humorous exchange at the check-out lane.

I had just deposited my purchases on the conveyor belt. Then, showing a small act of courtesy, I placed the plastic divider for the customer's order behind me.

"Oh, thank you!" the customer exclaimed.

"Well," I said, teasingly, "I didn't want to pay for your groceries!"

She laughed, and the clerk hooted. He laughed so hard that others took notice, responding appreciatively for the chance to smile. The air was filled with goodwill.

Now, I'm far from being a seasoned comedian. But I do know this about the human heart:

It is joyful.

It is playful.

It is spontaneous.

And it loves to laugh!
